Geology

 Geology is the branch of science that deals with the study of the composition of earth. Geologists are scientists who study the earth's crust to obtain an accurate picture of its structure, history and composition.Geologists play a vital role in exploring the mineral wealth and natural resources.One of their major duties is to assess a particular area to evaluate if it is appropriate for various constructions. Different branches of Geology are structural geology, mineralogy, planetology, geomorphology, geological engineering etc.

People generally tend to prefer jobs in their field of specialization, after obtaining their degree in Geology. Mineralogists, for example, study rocks, minerals, and precious stones. Paleontologists work with biologists to determine what the world was like in prehistoric times. Coal India, Mineral Exploration Authority, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, Hindustan Zinc and other organisations engaged in mineral explorations utilize the services of Geologists. Geology is also a popular choice in Civil Services and Forest Service Examinations conducted by the UPSC. The Defence and Para-military forces also require the services of Geologists.
